The original Rocketmen? Darkest Africa (1936) was Republic's premiere serial and featured their trademark flying effects for the first time. Larry Wickland, assisted by the legendary Lydecker brothers, used life sized balsa wood dummies filmed outdoors in natural light to bring the winged "batmen" to life.
